Beggining of the Wetland

Drenning Marsh has only recently been created, but for us it actually started over 40 years ago when Robin’s grandfather, Harry Drenning, bought the property we now live on. He was an outdoorsman who loved nature and being out in it. An avid hunter in early years, he eventually put his guns away and derived great pleasure from just observing the natural world as it unfolded around him. Drenning Marsh is our way of giving back a little chunk of earth to this planet by letting some of the land revert to the marsh it originally was intended to be, and to the plants and wildlife that depend on this type of environment for survival. It’s also our way of saying “thanks” to Robin’s grandfather. We think he’d be pleased.

We hope you will join us on our journey as Drenning Marsh evolves into a beautiful natural area.

Gena and I have been writing a monthly nature column for a local magazine for about 2 years. Gena does the bulk of the writing and I provide the photos and ideas for new articles.  As time permits I will be uploading them to this blog. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded for free.

Here is the first one titled The Orioles Return.  Click on the link below.
